This is a quick tutorial video that shows how to configure the basic settings for the Teltonika RUT950 4G Router.
The first thing to do is remove the cover plate where the antenna connectors are and insert your SIM card into SIM slot A, connect the cellular antennas and then connect the power. using an Ethernet cable connect your PC to the RUT950 and wait for a few minutes for the router to power up and finish the start up process.
Open a web browser and enter the default IP address 192.168.1.1 into the address bar and you should see the log in screen.
The RUT950 default user name and password are admin / admin01 – this information is also displayed on the router casing.
The video will show you how to configure your APN settings, enable remote administration, configure WiFi security, set up port forwarding and enable the ping reboot settings.
Please note that remote administration and port forwarding WILL NOT WORK unless you are using a SIM card with a fixed IP or a SIM Card/Network that supports DYNDNS ie. provides a PUBLIC IP address.
Most mobile phone networks use CGNAT (Carrier Grade NAT) to provide IP addresses to devices which means that the IP address allocated to your router is a PRIVATE IP address on the mobile providers network so you will not be able to connect to your router.
If you have a PC connected to the router and view www.showmyip.co.uk then it will show the mobile networks PUBLIC IP address but the network may have 100-200 devices connected behind this public IP address and your device will be just one of these which is why you will not be able to connect to your router. You can search “CGNAT 4G” or Carrier Grade NAT mobile networks” and read all about this.
The easy way around this is to used a Fixed IP SIM card which is a service offered by an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) who provide the fixed IP part of the service with the mobile broadband connection provided by their link into the mobile networks.
