Teltonika 5G Router

We get many questions recently about when Teltonika with launch their new 5G Router.

The quick answer is that there is no information from Teltonika about a 5G router but we can speculate whether they will just add a 5G modem inside existing M2M routers and perhaps make a RUT950 5G Router or RUT955 5G Router version. It might be the case when considering the launch of a new Teltonika 5G Router that they decide to use their office based routers like the RUTX11, RUTX12 and use these as the base for the new 5G devices or whether they will manufacture a brand new hardware platform for their new 5G router.

Teltonika announce hardware updates for RUT950 – power connector and Telit 4G modem

Teltonika have announced today that the Teltonika RUT950 will be produced with a new terminal power connection.

Teltonika claim the benefits of the new style power connector for the RUT950 4G Router will be

1) Socket plug with fixation
2) Ready for RCM certification
3) One socket for industrial and home usage
4) Reserved pins for ignition (future option)

Teltonika also announced that they will be replacing the existing Huawei 4G Modem and replace it with a new CAT4 Telit 4G Modem.

The new Telit Module has the following features

  • LTE (DL/UK) – 150 / 50 Mbps
  • LTE Bands – B1 (2100Mhz) / B3 (1800Mhz) / B7 (2600Mhz)  / B8 (900Mhz) / B20 (800Mhz)
  • HSPA (HSDPA) – 21 Mbps
  • HSPA (HSUPA) 5.76 Mbps
  • UMTS – 384 Mbps
  • GSM / GPRS / EDGE – Dual band Europe (900 / 1800 Mhz)
  • UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA – B1 / B8 (2100 / 900 Mhz)
  • EDGE – 236.8 Kbps
  • GPRS – 85.6 Kbps

Compared to the old Huawei Module

  • LTE (DL/UK) – 100 / 50 Mbps
  • LTE Bands – B1 / B2 / B3 / B5 / B7 / B8 / B20
  • HSPA (HSDPA) – 21 Mbps
  • HSPA (HSUPA) 5.76 Mbps
  • UMTS – 384 Mbps
  • GSM / GPRS / EDGE – Quad Band)
  • UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA – B1 / B2 / B5 / B8
  • EDGE – 236.8 Kbps
  • GPRS – 85.6 Kbps

So for 4G connectivity the main benefit is the move to a CAT4 module to hopefully provide better download speeds – of course your maximum download and upload speeds for the RUT950 4G Router will depend upon distance to 4G base Station and the number of simultaneous users and the mobile networks bandwidth and service restrictions.

Once Teltonika start production of the revised RUT950 4G Router then the old barrel style connector will no longer be available.  replacement power supplies will need to be specially ordered and are expected to be more expensive than the normal mains power supplies.

If you have the new version of the Teltonika RUT950 and are having 3G/4G connection issues then please ensure you are using the latest firmware and have correctly configured the mobile settings page – click here for details

Teltonika RUT900 3G Router Due For Launch

Teltonika have announced that they will soon be manufacturing the RUT900 which is the 3G version of the Teltonika RUT950 4G Dual SIM M2M Router.

Teltonika RUT900

The Teltonika RUT900 3G Router will use the same casing as the RUT950 and will include the DIN Rail mounting kit and the firmware and features will be the same – the only difference is that the RUT900 will use a 3G Module inside whereas the RUT950 uses a 4G Module.

Teltonika also announced that this will mean that the RUT500 3G router will be discontinued in favour of the new RUT900 3G Router which offers an advanced feature set and also includes the dual SIM failover making ideal for M2M projects for remote management and monitoring with the advantage of a lower price and of course with many M2M projects will only using 3G M2M Data SIM cards because of the lower rental and data costs the RUT900 3G router will provide a stable and low cost solution for mobile broadband Internet connectivity.  This new RUT900 router will be similar to the Elins H900 4G Router.

RUT950 Dual SIM 4G Router – Ultimate 4G M2M Reliability

RUT950 4G Router

If you need a reliable 4G connection then look no further than the new Teltonika RUT950 4G Router.

RUT950 4G Router

The RUT950 is an embedded 4G router so you can just insert your 3G or 4G Data SIM card and the high speed 3G/4G connection can be shared via the Ethernet Ports and built-in WiFi.  What’s even better is that the Teltonika RUT950 router includes a second SIM card slot so if the router is to be used for an M2M remote management and monitoring application it means that if the primary network becomes unavailable for whatever reason the router can switch to the back-up SIM card and still provide that all important 3G/4G mobile broadband connection.

The RUT950 SIM failover can be configured for different scenarios iinlcuding simple failover upon network unavailable through to switching depending upon time of day and even includes a bandwidth monitoring option so can switch from SIM A to SIM B when a particular data limit has been reached.

RELIABILITY

As well as the obvious SIM fail over, the Teltonika includes ping reboot so when the mobile network disconnects the router then the router will be able to detect this and reboot to re-establish the connection and as an extra back-up the RUT950 also includes SMS reboot so you can send it a text message to tell it to reboot and can also request status via SMS message.
